Languages
Q: Budget4All supports French and English. Do you plan to support more languages ?
A: I would be very happy to do so. I need help however for translation. It is just a matter of translating one single file and this is it ! Please contact me if you would like to contribute.
Mac Support
Q: Is it possible to run Budget4All on a Mac computer ?
A: Budget4All is a Java application and requires version 6 of Java. As far as I know, there is still no version 6 available for Mac (as of May 2008). Consequently, it is not possible to run Budget4All on a Mac : you have to use virtualization technology to do so.
Starting Amount
Q: What is the "Starting Amount" edit box at the bottom of the main window and why is it not saved with the scenario ?
A: This the place where you enter the amount of cash you have at this moment. The cashflow curve will start from that value at the date of today. It is not saved in the scenario file, because it is not really part of a "scenario" in the way we think about it. It is rather something that is related to your current financial situation.
Data Privacy
Q: I don't want my data to be seen by anybody. How can I do that ?
A: You can use the encryption capability of Budget4All. Open the scenario you want to protect and go to "Tools->Protect Scenario File". You are presented with a dialog window : select the "Protected" option and click Apply. You will be asked a password. KEEP THIS PASSWORD IN A SAFE PLACE ! Budget4 All will ask you to enter this password every time this scenario will be opened. That is it : your file is now encrypted and cannot be tempered with. Please note that you can "unprotect" your scenario at any time later on. Just select the "No protection" option in the dialog window previously discussed.
